Amy BeMent
Assistant General Counsel
As Assistant General Counsel, Ms. BeMent provides advice to the following units and colleges:
- Procurement and Facilities Management Division (divisions of the Vice President for Finance and Administration)
- Division of Student Affairs
- Mary Frances Early College of Education
- Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources
- Odum School of Ecology
Additionally, Ms. BeMent has responsibility for the following areas:
- Student Appeal Review, including EAC, Academic Honesty, and Student Conduct
- Residency Appeals Committee Chair
- Procurement Contract Review
Prior to joining the Office of Legal Affairs, Ms. BeMent had careers in education and in private legal practice. Ms. BeMent worked as a high school teacher of Government and Economics. After an eleven-year teaching career, Ms. BeMent decided to return to school to pursue her law degree. Upon graduation, she clerked for two years for the Honorable Steve C. Jones, United States District Judge for the Northern District of Georgia and for one year for the Honorable Harold D. Melton, Chief Justice of the Georgia Supreme Court. Ms. BeMent then practiced business litigation for three years with an Athens law firm before joining the Office of Legal Affairs.
Ms. BeMent earned her bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Georgia and her juris doctor from Georgia State University.
