As Assistant General Counsel and Counsel to UGA Foundation, Mr. O’Brien provides advice to the Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations and to the Foundation on a variety of legal, governance, and regulatory issues. His office is located at One Press Place.

Prior to joining the University of Georgia, Mr. O’Brien was an Associate Attorney in the Public Finance, Tax Incentives, and Credit Markets group in the Atlanta office of Butler Snow LLP. In that role, he represented investment banks, higher education institutions, nonprofit organizations, and governmental entities in connection with a variety of tax-exempt and taxable bond financings and hybrid financings for various types of senior living and affordable housing communities, healthcare facilities, and traditional municipal finance projects.

Mr. O’Brien earned his bachelor’s degree in communication studies and his juris doctor from the University of Georgia.
