Michael M. Raeber
General Counsel
As General Counsel, Mr. Raeber serves as chief legal counsel for the University and is a member of the University’s Cabinet. He serves as the office’s primary liaison with the Office of the President, with legal counsel for the Board of Regents, and with the Office of the Attorney General on litigation matters. Mr. Raeber also serves as General Counsel to the University of Georgia Athletic Association and as the Association’s liaison with legal counsel in the Southeastern Conference. In addition to these responsibilities, and the general supervision of the Office of Legal Affairs, Mr. Raeber provides guidance to the following units and colleges of the University:
- Division of Marketing and Communications
- Office of Government Relations
- Equal Opportunity Office
- UGA Police Department and Emergency Preparedness
Prior to joining the Office of Legal Affairs, Mr. Raeber was a partner in the Business Litigation Group at King & Spalding in Atlanta, where he worked for almost twenty years. He served as lead counsel in cases involving real estate, insurance recovery, employment, accounting, and other business disputes. Before joining King & Spalding, he clerked for Judge Stanley F. Birch, Jr. of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.
Mr. Raeber is a 1993 cum laude graduate of the UGA School of Law, where he was published in the Georgia Law Review and served as Editor-in-Chief. He holds an undergraduate degree in political science from Sewanee: The University of the South, where he was a four-year letterman and all-conference basketball player.
